Brief Answer:
detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare magic.

Kidney stones are suspected when a patient presents with a strong pain in the side and lower back .Usually the pain is only in one side and spreads on lower abdomen and groin.Other symptoms are frequent, painful urination ,blood in urine, nausea and vomiting.

These symptoms occur only when the stone moves inside the kidney or passes down to ureter .
If the stone doesn't move ,it doesn't cause any symptom at all and they can be detected accidentally during an abdominal ultrasound done for other reasons.
When kidney stones are suspected a number of investigations are necessary to confirm the diagnosis :
-Urinalysis
-Blood tests
-Abdominal ultrasound
-abdominal X-ray
-CT-scan

Hope it helps.
