Question: My son is 5 yrs and has autism with no speech at all. He follows very simple instructions. How can we develop the understanding n language part.

I am sorry to hear that your child has autism spectrum disorder (as it is presently known). The management of such a condition is supportive. Early intervention is the key to a good outcome. Much of valuable time has been lost already and I would insist active intervention in this regard. You need to take your son to a speech and language pathologist, a child psychologist as well as a devleopmental pediatrician. The condition has to be graded in order to ascertain the degree of support he needs and whether there is need of a special educator. While the psychologist would be able to administer behavior modification therapy the speech and language pathologist would be able to administer suitable speech therapy. Group therapy might also be invaluable.

A comprehensive management is needed and not merely for the purpose of development of speech. Please do not ignore.
