How Effective Is Halcion Sedation For Periodontal Surgery?
Question: I am having periodontal gum surgery tomorrow and have anxiety about a drug their giving me called Halcion which is supposed to put me in a dream like sedated STATE. It is oral sedation and I have read it works on some and not on others. I have had IV twilight sedation many times and don't have any recollection of pain or remember anything. He is using Halcion in addition if necessary with gas. He is an extremely well know periodontist with a great reputation but again I am just scared the Halcion won't work. Can Halcion be compared to IV "twilight" sedation?
Brief Answer:
Halcion for sure can not be compared to iv "twilight" sedation.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
Halcion for sure can not be compared to IV "twilight" sedation. It contains benzodiazepine drug similar to commonly used to treat insomnia. Valium for example is a very similar drug. So Halcion only (without any other drug) can not cause typical sedation. It can make you sleepy or relaxed, but not sedated.
Halcion can be used as an addition to gas sedation. But not a single sedative drug.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
