Question: Hi Doc,
I had anal sex with somebody and they told me their HIV- and i did my test before and it was HIV- ,and since then I never had sex with anybody except this time ,and I used condom and it didn't break I ejaculated in the condom after pulling off. What is my risk of catching HIV?. Does it has to be certain condoms to be ok? Do I need to get tested?. Thanks

Brief Answer:
At present you have negligible chances of HIV

Detailed Answer:
Hello welcome to HCM.
I have read your question and understand your concerns.
HIV infection usually get transmitted via 3 ways
1.Unprotected sex with HIV positive person (high chances in anal sex due to injury)
2.Mother to child during birth
3. Hospital Aquired (blood or injection)

You had history of anal sex with someone before and who has told that that person is negative . Its a good idea to encourage your partner to get tested when they have contact with someone who they are unfamiliar with. Still if you have got tested after the sexual exposure and it comes negative then it's still satisfactory (however it takes time for HIV antibodies to develop)

HIV usually transmitted during sex because of mucosal injury to one of the partners which is actually more in anal sex but using condoms will significantly decrease the chances of transmission. So you should not be worried much about it.
However I will give you 2 advices -

1. DO your HIV test again because your first exposure is doubtful and also because you will get mentally relieved after second exposure. (mostly it will be negative)

2.If possible avoid anal sex with multiple partners because it significantly increase the chances of transmission.

I hope I have cleared your doubts. Still any queries from you is welcomed anytime.
Thank you.
Have a nice day.

Brief Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX I think you are fine still get tested!!

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX I welcome you to HCM again.
As per I have mentioned earlier that you don't have any history of trauma(bleeding) and also you have used Condom so chances of transmission is negligible or Nil. Actually.

But I have given you reasons why you should get tested again because of your unclear first episode of anal sex after that you haven't been tested (you have written that you have been tested before) and secondly that it seems that you are somewhat anxious about whether you have HIV or not after second exposure now, so to clear your doubts only.
As far as my personal opinion is concerned I don't see any concerns of worry and you didn't get HIV.
Because if a person has anal sex with an Even HIV positive person and there is mucosal injury still chances of infection is 1.4% in receptive anal sex and 0.3-0.5% in insertive anal sex only so nearly 1 in 100 exposures.
So, chances are not there at present for transmission only thing I have told you to get tested is because of your unclear first exposure.
Thank you.
Hope I have given you satisfactory answer. If you feel the same please rate the answer.
Have a nice day and enjoy the life.
