Question: Hello..

Have a cousin you is diagnoized with cervical dystonia/ Spasmodic torticollis. He is 34 years of age , ht 5'5ft and weight -65kg , he had consulted so many doctors but all have confirmed that there is no treatment for this if injections are taken there is a possiblility of side effects or getting into coma.
Please advice positive treatments for this problem as he is in severe pain and the neck gets tilted very often which is stopping him from carrying out his daily routine work and had mentally demotivated him a lot.

Please advice ...thanks

Hello
Thanks for writing to us.
Your cousin does not have any history of any major health issues.
He needs a thorough evaluation including plain cervical radiographs, CT scans, or MRI of the cervical spine to rule out the causes like bony trauma, suspected C1-C2 subluxation, congenital bony abnormalities, osteomyelitis, abscesses, XXXXXXX space infections, or masses / tumors. A neurosurgeon will help you in detecting the exact cause of the problem after which the treatment options can be suggested according to the cause.
Analgesics and muscle relaxants are the main treatment along with the specific treatment of the underlying cause. Injections of Botox are given only in resistant cases.
Most of the cases show improvement in 2-4 weeks after proper treatment.
I hope my answer and recommendations are adequate and helpful. Waiting for your further follow up queries if any.
Regards.
