Routine biopsy and cytology results generally takes 1 or 2 days after the sample is received in the laboratory.But in some cases it may take much longer time to complete.
In general,only selected areas are processed and examined under the microscope.
In some cases after the first sections of tissue are seen under the microscope,pathologist might want to look at more sections for an accurate diagnosis.In these cases,extra pieces of tissue might need processing and it may take 1-2 days more for reporting.
