Question: HI I HAVE BEEN PRESCRIBED MACRODANTIN FOR A UTI AND FELT AWE FULL ON IT, SEVERE FATIGUE, NAUSEA, MUSCLE ACHES AND JOINT ACHING. I STUCK WITH IT AND FINISHED A 7 DAY COURSE TAKING 100MG TWICE DAILY, SINCE STOPPING THE MEDS I AM STILL HAVING THESE SIDE EFFECTS 4 DAYS LATER BUT NOT AS BAD, HOW LONG WILL THIS LAST.

Brief Answer: Not 'just' related to macrodantin Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for the query It is true that this particular drug has the most side effects compared to other drugs usually used for uti. It is also the most effective nowadays in the era multiple drug resistance However the symptoms what you are having does not just indicate side effects of the medication but the infection also. It will take about 3 weeks until you start feelif completely normal . Here are my suggestions to you 1. get a urine routine again to see for residual urine infection 2. I advice my patients another urine culture at the end of 1 week of treatment 3. Drink lots of water. Cranberry juice is ideal in uti 4. avoid getting dehydrated 5. void urine after coitus 6. tab paracetamol can be taken for the generalised body ache I hope I was of help, if you have any further query please get back to me regards

I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A WELL KNOWN DRUG BUT I DIDNT HAVE ANY OF THESE SYMPTOMS UNTIL I STARTED THE DRUG, I DIDNT EVEN KNOW I HAD A UTI. I ALSO HAD A REACTION LIKE THIS TO SOME OTHER ANTIBIOTICS BEFORE. IT TOOK A WEEK FOR ME TO COME BACK TO NORM,AL, MY QUESTION IS HOW LONG WILL IT BE IN MY SYSTEM. I HAVE ALSO PUT IN ANOTHER URINE SAMPLE AND AM AWAITING THE RESULTS
