How Long Does It Take For Breast Milk To Dry Up?

Question: Hi,
i have 1.2 years old baby boy.I have stopped giving the breast milk to baby boy from past 3 days.Could you please guide me how to stop producing milk?does it harden and cause pain in future?Any medications to be used? I have heard from my mother that milk will stop producing naturally after few days.Also if i take any external medicine, will it harm my future baby.

Hello dear,

I understand your health concerns.

Your mother is right that milk will stop coming after a couple of weeks.
There is no harm in not expressing it and it won't affect your next pregnancy at all.
Rather if you will keep expressing then milk will keep forming so just wear a tight brassiere and change it regularly.

Also don't express milk at all and in case it starts engorging or it pains then just take tablet ibuprofen and give hot fomentation.

Above measures will help you stop the milk from forming and thus wean your baby.
