How Long Does Torn Tendons Take To Heal Post Rotator Cuff Surgery?

default
Posted on Thu, 14 May 2015
Question: I had shoulder surgery on the 15th of April. I had fallen on the ice on January 23rd and completely tore my cuff along with three tendons. The Dr. had to put patch in to repair. Is the the rehab slower and less intense, so it is not tore loose? I am 65 and not overweight and it good physical condition. I see the surgeon on the 25th and start therapy on the 30th of his month.

Brief Answer:
Yes the physiotherapy is less intense initially.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
After the rotator cuff repair, the healing takes 1-2 weeks. Physiotherapy is needed after that to regain the full range of movement. Initially only mild exercise is done that does not caue much pain. Doing too much too fast can cause damage to the repaired cuff. Gradually the exercises are increased in a graded manner to regain the full range of movement.
I hope this answers your query.
