How Long Should We Expect A Biopsy Test Results?
Question: Hi. My girlfriend went to the gynecologist today for pain during sex and the dr said they couldn't find anything but they were concerned about a grayish area(she is a black girl) so they did a procedure and took a small piece of vagina and send to lab for results. The dr told her the results would be next week sometime? is that really how long she needs to wait for results. How long do the results normally take with a procedure like this.

Biopsies of skin are done to diagnose bumps, moles, rashes or other types of changes on the skin. Some skin changes that may appear like dark patches on light-skinned people look lighter or grey on dark-skinned people.
In order to read a biopsy, a pathologist (the kind of specialist doctor that reads slides under the microscope) needs to take the piece of skin, prepare it by slicing it into microscopic slices, stain it (so it is visible on a microscope slide), prepare the slide, examine it, and generate a report of the diagnosis. Many doctor's offices do not have a pathology laboratory on the premises, so it may take some time to transmit the specimen to the lab as well. This is the reason that tissue biopsy specimens take so long to get results.
It is unlikely that a skin condition of the vagina would cause pain during sex, but I am sure your girlfriend's doctor will explain what he/she was concerned bout to her once the biopsy results are back.
