Brief Answer:
Usually less than 2 weeks

Dear XXXXXXX
Sorry to hear you developed shingles. It is likely that the pills you are taking are anti-virals, which aim at supressing the varicella zoster virus that causes shingles. Usually, significant improvement in both pain and inflammation is expected within the first 10 to 14 days of treatment; the issue though, hoepfully not your case, is that there may be residual pain even when the lesions in the skin have healed. If your diagnosis and treatment was early, this decreases the chances of such complications.
