How Long Will Hepatitis B Vaccine Be Effective?
Unlikely to get hepatitis b if vaccinated before, recommended a booster
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.
The hepatitis B vaccine is very effective and give protection to those who take the injection.
It generates antibodies and prevents attack by the hepatitis B virus.
It is recommended that a booster vaccine is taken every 5 years to maintain adequate antibody level for protection.
It is unlikely to get hepatitis b infection if you have taken a hepatits B vaccine before. However, for better protection from hepatitis B during sexual intercourse with a person of unknown hepatitis B infectivity status, it is suggested that you get a booster vaccine after discussing with your doctor.

Taking a hepatitis vaccine earlier also works in most people because there are circulating antibodies which give protection from the hepatitis b virus. Taking a booster injection every 5 years will enhance protection and generate higher amount of antibodies.

Vaccination does not give protection to already infected person
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
I am sorry we have some confusion out there.
A vaccine will not help any person who is infected with hepatitis B nor will it cause any harm.
I thought that the vaccine was for the non infected person.
In case of a person who is infected, he can transmit infection even if he has taken vaccination 3 months earlier.

Many vaccines work even till 10 years, recommended hep b antibody titer
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
Even if taken 5 to 6 years back, some protection will be there till 10 years. In such a case I would suggest her to get a hepatitis b antibody titer done to know the antibody level she has.
