default
Posted on Sat, 29 Nov 2014
Question: G/afternoon,
For the past 8 or 9 months I have an elevated mark on my forearm with scales on it
I dont go into the sun. It neither itches nor has it grown in the past 8-9 months. It does not blled or ooze anything.
From what I have seen on the NET it looks to me like it may be Basel Cell?
Can you please help?
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
It might be Basal Cell Carcinoma.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

Considering the visual aspects of this lesion ,the fact that it has been there for 8-9 months and considering your age , Basal Cell Carcinoma should be taken in consideration.
This kind of skin cancer has a very slowly growth and almost never spreads beyond the original tumor site.Si in this stage it is possible to remove it totally.
You should consult a Dermatologist. The doctor can look very closely to this skin lesion using a dermatoscope.
If during this examination the doctor will find sign that suggest cancer ,a biopsy of the lesion is necessary to confirm it.

Hope it was of helps.
Let me know if you have any other question or doubts to clarify.I will be happy to assist you further.

Kind regards,

Dr. Rovena,
were you able to see the pic from the URL I posted?
It doesnt appear to you to be Squamous or Melanoma does it?
From my understanding and from all the pics I have seen Melanoma is almost always a very dark color such as that of a mole!
Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
Consult a dermatologist.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

I saw the picture carefully.
It doesn't look like melanoma.
Melanoma is a dark lesion that looks like a mole but with irregular borders and it color is not uniform.
It is a flat lesion (it doesn't rise over the skin but it is spread within the layers of the skin).
The lesion in your arm is not melanoma.

This lesion might be a skin cancer (basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma both are possible) or it may be a chronic sore that needs specific treatment to go away.
The fact that it has been there for 9 months ,raise the suspicion for skin cancer. It is very important to consult a dermatologist to examine this lesion.
It also might be just an chronic inflammation but first cancer should be excluded.

Wish you all the best !
Take care,
Dr.Rovena
