How To Cure Masturbation In An Epileptic Patient?

Question: My son is 26 years old and is mentally disabled. He has epilepsy. At home he excessively masturbates. Even in his sleep he masturbates. He is sleeps 13 hour stretches night and day. Do we need to approach our neurologist about masturbation induced epilepsy? Confused.

Brief Answer: Try not leaving him alone. Detailed Answer: Hi Thanks for writing to health care magic. As your son is already on antiepileptics, don't worry unless the seizures have increased in frequency. Masturbation has no relation to seizures. You need to keep him engaged with some activity most of the time . Leaving him alone will lead to more of this issue. Try music which will divert him. If the seizure frequency has increased , you need to consult your neurologist . He might need increase in dose or addition of one more medicine . Wishing him good health Regards Dr Arun
