Posted on Mon, 7 Sep 2015
Question: Hello, I am a 29 year old male and currently suffering from the following; unable to focus on more than one task, restless, easily frustrated (possibly due to concentration issues), and that's to name a few. My wife believes I may have adhd as she sees this with members in her family. I decided to get an experts opinion. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Brief Answer:
yes possibility of ADD and/or depression is there, it can be treated

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Your wife is likely right about your problem. Inability to focus, restlessness and irritability are likely symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). For confirmation of diagnosis detail history and mental status examination are required and that is to be done by psychiatrist.

Treatment included activating medicines from amphatamine group (methyphenidate or Lisdexamfetamine) or NRI group ( Atomoxetine or bupropion).

In few cases lack of concentration may be symptom of depression and psychiatrist can rule out this situation by proper evaluation.
Depression is also treatable condition with medicines.

In few cases depression and ADD both present.

Whatever the case may be you can come out of this problem with help of professional.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.

This may or may not sound a bit contradicting. I am generally a happy person, the symptoms I have listed above mainly occur when it seems to be work related or personal projects. So, (depression) feels a bit far out for me. This may have also been helpful on my initial question. Apologies. I do appreciate your experience in this matter.
