Brief Answer: My reply is below. Detailed Answer: Hi Ms XXXXXXX Thank you for posting the query regarding your husband. I have gone trough the link on medhelp.org in detail to undetrstand his symptoms. Based on that, a diagnosis of epilepsy should be considered. I agree that it is difficult to make a confirmed diagnosis of epilepsy, as it relies more on patient's symptoms and there are no tests that give 100% accuracy in confirming the diagnosis. For example, MRI brain and EEG report may be normal. In these situations, two options are there: 1. Advanced testing such as PET (positron emission tomography) of brain or long-term video EEG monitoring, 2. Empirical treatment with anti-epileptic drugs. I hope my reply has helped you. I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information. Brief Answer: Anti-anxiety medicines may help. Detailed Answer: Thank you for getting back. Brain and mind are closely linked. Sometimes, symptoms of both can overlap too. Also, several medicines work for neuro as well as psychiatry conditions. I feel he could try anti-anxiety medications for a few weeks, it would not cause any side effects. Any benefit can be seen during that period. Best wishes, Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology)
