How To Recognise Breakthrough Bleeding?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Jun 2016
Question: is there any possible way to differentiate between a normal menstrual with a breakthrough bleeding? I had unprotected sex with my bf on 18/5/16 and took postinor 2 on the same day. I noticed a low bleeding on 24/5/16 which i assume was a breakthrough bleeding. However today on 26/5/16, i saw some blood clump coming out, which is common during my menstrual, which is about the same due with the start of my assumed breakthrough bleeding. So, is it a breakthrough bleeding or my normal menstrual? if it's the first, when would be my normal menstrual?

Brief Answer:
Continuation of Breakthrough bleeding

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

I am sure, I have spelt your name incorrectly and wish to mention it correctly if you provide me your name.

Postinor 2 is a post coital emergency birth control pill which is to be taken ideally within first 24 hours but definitely not after 72 hours of unprotected sex for preventing pregnancy. You have already taken the pills on the very same day of the unprotected sex. So you are protected form the pregnancy.

Postinor 2 contains Levonorgestrel which is a progestin medicine. This medicine does cause some amount of bleeding of varying degree after few days. This is what you are referring to the breakthrough bleeding.

So you had breakthrough bleeding from 24the May 2016. The bleeding on 26th May is just the continuation of this breakthrough bleeding which will cease within a couple of days. You need not worry about it.

Moreover, these pills may delay your expected menses by few days, even up to a week also. You need not get panicky about it. Wait patiently in a stress free mind and you will get your menses; though delayed by few days.

I am sure this has clarified the confusion in your mind. So how about posting a good review with 5 starts rating for me? However, for any more information, I am always available for you, XXXXX.

Brief Answer:
Usually not more than a week

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

The delay in menstruation after post-coital contraceptive pills is usually not more than a week or so. It does not damage reproductive organs in any way. It will leave your fertility unaffected in your future life.

I would advise you to opt for regular contraceptive methods like contraceptive pills, condom of intrauterine device in future for a regular routine use to avoid stressful situations.

You are most welcome for any further information you want from me.
