Question: Please i tried self abortion by taking 200mcg of cytotec orally and inserted 200mcg viginally but it dint work.its past 24hrs already. The pregnancy is below 5weeks. Please what do i do?

Thanks for writing.. I understand your concern..

Please do not use these drugs on your own.. It should be taken only under the supervision of a Gynaecologist.

Can you tell me whether you have done a scan prior to taking this drug?Confirming the intrauterine pregnancy is very necessary prior to taking the medication.

So if a scan is not done, please get it done. If its an intrauterine pregnancy, medical abortion can be tried if gestational age less than 7 weeks by scan. Consult a gynaecologist and repeat dose of misoprostol vaginally is required. Usually with correctly inserted misoprostol, bleeding starts within 4 hrs. A check scan should be done after 14 days to see whether the uterine cavity is empty. If there is retained products, D and C need to be done.Hence I would suggest you visit a gynecologist.
