IUGR Kid. Have Coughing. Given Levolin Syrup. Prescribed SWIT-D Syrup And Sinarest Syrup. Suggest?
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.
Your child cough seems like an allergic cough or cough due to spasm of small airways.
Snoring may be due to congestion of upper airways due to allergy or inflammation.
Is there any fever?
Is the child having any wheezing?
Is there any rapid breathing or respiratory distress?
If these are present a chest X XXXXXXX will help to rule out any lower respiratory tract infection.
If there is wheezing a cough syrup with a mucolytic and bronchodilator such as levolin or nebulization with levosalbutamol at regular intervals will relive the cough.
I advise you to continue Sinarest syrup as per the prescription.
If the cough is not relived with this medication, consult the pediatrician again for reexamination to auscultate for wheezing and for a chest X XXXXXXX
Hope I have answered your query, if you have any clarification please let me know.
Regards.
Thank you for your answer.
As per my examination she doesnt have any respiratory distress or rapid breathing as such.
She had fever last week for which the doctor had given Noble plus syrup 2.5 ml thrice for 2 days. After that there has been no fever.
Now i am only worried for her coughing that wakes her up at few occasions from her sleep. She coughs intermittently whole time but my observation is that early morning around 5 am her cough troubles her for quite a long time.
Also let me inform you that during this course her doctor had given her Molev syrup but it did not suit her as she got crankish and restless after taking just one dose of 2.5ml, therefore i discontinued with the same and the doctor then gave her Sinarest. Hope there is nothing serious with her cough.
Her coughing has been from 15 days now. Advised Sinarest 2.5ml thrice from past 2 days. How many more days should i continue with Sinarest before taking any other step? Pls advise
Thank you for getting back.
Allergic cough will respond Sinarest in 3 to 5 days.
If the child is not responding to this medication within this period or if the child cough is increasing or any abnormal signs like rapid breathing, wheezing, fever, is there consult the doctor.
Early morning cough in this season is mostly due to allergic one or due to bronchospasm (constriction of small airways) which is aggravated by cold air.
Some times gastroesophageal reflux also presents with cough during the nights which requires prokinetic and antacid medication.
Observe for concerning symptoms and signs such as hurried breathing, respiratory distress, and bluish discoloration of hands, feet, and lips which requires immediate medical attention.
If the child cough intensity doesn't decrease in 3 to 5 days, consult the doctor for reevaluation.
Hope I have answered your query, if you have any clarification please let me know.
Regards.
Thank you for your answer.
Appreciate your precise opinion and analysis on my queries.
Today after 4 days of Sinarest medicine my daughter's coughing has reduced significantly. Hope that the early mornings cough spell will too stop within the next 2 days of Sinarest medication. I also have been giving her steam with little Vicks in the water twice for 5 to 7 mins each time
Based on the above and previous medical history provided request you to recommend an Beginners home action plan (medicines and diet) to manage my daughters cold and cough episodes occurring in future. When should her doctor be consulted for the same.
Thanks
XXXXX.
Thank you for getting back and for your kind appreciation.
I am glad to hear that the child's cough improved significantly with the medication.
Continue the medication as per the advise.
You can continue steam with Vicks in the water.
I will advise you some precautions to prevent the frequent episodes of cold and cough.
1. Look and observe for an allergic foods, drinks and if you find any avoid them.
2. Don't expose the child to cold weather, cold air, smoke, pollution, plants and
pollen, sprays and perfumes, paint vapors, and rainy season.
3. Don't take the child into crowd.
4. Prevent the child exposure to people with cold and cough.
5. Vaccinate her with all recommended vaccinations as per the schedule.
6. Maintain hand hygiene of all family members including the child to prevent
transmission of pathogens.
Home plan for cold and cough:
If she develops cold, you can apply Vicks to her chest or on pillow while sleeping.
For nose block, you can put Nasoclear nasal drops one or two drops into her nostrils to clear the discharge and nose block.
For cough you can continue steam inhalation.
If the cough and cold is persisting beyond 24 to 48 hours, I advise you to consult the pediatrician for the examination and for medication advise.
Hope I have answered your query, if you have any clarification please let me know.

My maid who work in my house has got jaundice...She washes clothes of my kid daughter also. Is there any risk from her jaundice to my kid and my family?
What precautions are required to be taken if any? Pls advise
Thanks
XXXXX.
Thank you for your query and contacting me on Healthcare Magic.
Jaundice occurs due to involvement of liver in various diseases, but the most common being infections of liver such as Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis D, and Hepatitis E.
Hepatitis A and Hepatitis E usually transmit through feco-oral route. It means there is transmission of the disease from infected person to other persons by physical contact.
The other viruses such as Hepatitis B, C, and D will spread through body fluids by using contaminated syringes, unsafe blood transfusion, sexual contact, and sharing syringes between drug abusers.
It seems your maid is suffering from infective hepatitis such as Hepatitis A most probably. So there is a risk of transmission of this virus to close contacts of your family who will come in contact with her by using or sharing the vessels such as glasses, plates, water, food, and spoons.
By wearing the clothes washed by her usually doesn't lead to infection.
Patients infected with Hepatitis A are contagious for 2 weeks before and about 7 days after the appearance of jaundice, so these persons have to be excluded from work during this period.
So if the cause of jaundice in your maid is due to Hepatitis A and E or if you don't know the cause , ask her to take leave from the work for at least 7 days from the onset of jaundice.
If the jaundice is due to typhoid fever, ask her to restrain from the work till she completes the treatment.
If the jaundice is due to other reason such as Hepatitis B, C, and D, usually there will be no spread of the infection by using the clothes, vessels washed by her.
And the precautions to be taken are:
1.Strict hand washing of all family members by using liquid soap such as Dettol
before going for meal and after using toilet.
2.Safe and purified water to be taken as drinking water.
3.Avoiding contact with infected patients during the period of infection.
4.Isolating the infected person during the period of infection.
5.Eat fresh and well cooked home food.
Hope I have answered your query, if you have any clarification please let me know.

Thank you for your in depth answer for my query.
My 2 year old daughter at times throws a lot of tantrums for washing her hands.
Can i put sterillium liquid on her palms and ask her to rub and sanitize her hands?
Is it safe if she sanitizes her hands by sterilium before eating her meals also?
Which is the safest sanitizer for using before meals when traveling?
Pls advise.
Thanks.
XXXXX
Thank you for getting back.
For regular hand wash for kids, sterilium liquid is not required.
Sterilium rub on hands before eating will lead to contamination of food with its chemical ingredients, which is not safe.
Frequent sterilium rub will lead to disturbance in the normal healthy flora of hands and this may lead to fungal infections of hands.
Putting liquid soap on kid hands with rubbing followed by washing the hands under running water from a tap is the best and safest method.
Child may show tantrums for hand wash, but make hand washing as a cheerful and playful act so that child will imitate your actions and enjoys hand washing.
In traveling you can use hand sanitizers such as Dettol hand sanitizer.
Hope I have answered your query, if you have any clarification please let me know.
Regards.
Thank you for the satisfactory answer.
Is Dettol hand sanitizer safe for adults and kids to be used before eating meals?
Pls advise.
Thanks.

Thank you for getting back.
Sanitizer should be applied when the hands are clean.
Sanitizers usually contain alcohol and other ingredients so they may have some effects if they are swallowed significantly.
So sanitizers are used to kill the germs on clean hands. But frequent use is associated with intake of alcohol in significant amounts.
Once in a while you can use safely like in traveling, but that also to be used after washing and cleaning the hands with water.
Instead you can carry small pouch of liquid soap while traveling.
Hope I have answered your query.

Yesterday when i went home from work my wife informed that our daughter's body temperature has suddenly shot up (not recorded on the thermometer but felt by putting hand on the back). It stayed very hot (like one in the cases of high fever) for 5 mins and later it was back to usual.
The rest of the time when i felt her body it was at times slightly warm and at times normal.
Also my daughter has been sneezing 4 to 5 times and coughing in the mornings from yesterday. She is eating and playing well though throughout this.
Based on her past medical history provided here what do you suggest? what medicine can she be given anticipating that her symptoms are that of a cold?
Pls advise.
Thanks.

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.
It seems she is having cold due to which she developed sneezing.
For cold, you can give oral syrup such as Sinarest-AF in prescribed dose.
Check her body temperature by using a thermometer at regular intervals and if the body temperature is 100 degree F or more give her oral paracetamol in syrup form in prescribed dose.
Look at her throat for any congestion and redness.
If the fever is persisting, throat is red with congestion, consult the pediatrician for examination and medication.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
Thank you for the prompt reply.
Can solvin cold be also given for her current symptoms?
If not pls clarify when should Solvin cold is applicable and when Sinarest is applicable.
What will be the recommended dose for my daughter ( 2.2 years 8 kgs) of the above medicines if to be given?
Thanks.
XXXXX
Thank you for getting back.
Solvin cold can be given in 2 years old child with cold, cough, and fever.
The dose is 2.5 ml twice or thrice daily in 2 year child with the above symptoms.
Sinarest also contains the same drug ingredients except for ambroxol and it is given in children with cold and fever.
As these are prescribed drugs, I advise you to use these medication with the prescription of pediatrician.
Hope I have answered your query, if you have any clarification please let me know.
Regards.
Thank you for the answer.
As recommended by you i will give Sinarest 2.5 ml twice a day. For how many days should it be given for its course to complete?
In case of fever you suggested oral paracetamol. Should fever medicines be given only when fever repeats after the first dose or fever medicines can be given like twice or thrice a day for X days even if fever doesnt repeat?
In the past her pediatrician had given Noble Plus 2.5ml thrice a day for fever. Is Noble plus also safe and effective for my daughter? If not which medicine(brand) do you advice her for fever?
Hope i made my query understood to you.
Thanks.
XXXXX
Thank you for getting back.
Sinarest contains both paracetamol, phenylephrine, and chlorpheniramine maleate.
You can give sinarest in recommended dose for 2 to 3 days.
Fever medication should be given if there is fever. If there is no fever, fever medication is not required.
So I advise you to give Sinarest if the child is having fever and cold or give Sinarest-AF if the child is having only cold.
Noble-Plus contains both paracetamol and mefenamic acid and it is given if the child is having high grade fever.
For mild to moderate fever, paracetamol syrup such as Crocin-120 mg is sufficient. And the dose for 8 Kg child is 5ml if there is fever.
Hope I have answered your query.
