Is BP Reading Of 140/100 A Cause For Concern?

Question: hi doctor, my BP is 140/100. i want it to come down to 120/80. i need a medicine for immediate effect. request suggest.

Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
You see the question is not of bringing your BP to 120/80 now only.
The fact is that you have to resort to various things like diet control,salt control,exercises,avoiding smoking and drinking alcohol in moderation and off course taking some additional medicine since atenolol 50 mg is not enough for you now. Your BP should constantly be around 120/80.
Although you can add a mild diuretic like HYDROCHLORTHIAZIDE 12.5 mg every day ( morning after breakfast ) to your current medication but you should consult your doctor and get your anti hypertensive medications advised by him and also a regular monitoring of your BP.
In addition you must get yourself investigated for lipid profile,blood sugar levels etc also.
