Is CO2 Laser Or Conventional Surgery Better For Stapedectomy?

Laser stapedectomy is better.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. Laser stapedectomy is better than conventional stapedectomy.
2. Lasers enable a precise bloodless hole in the footplate of the stapes to be made without any mechanical trauma to the inner ear, especially with a CO2 laser. Thus decrease the incidence of vertigo, tinnitus and hearing loss due to the surgery, thus giving better results than conventional surgery. Removal of the supra structure of the stapes is also atraumatic.
3. Disadvantages include cost, more time consuming, additional instrumentation, thermal damage to surrounding structures such as the facial nerve.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.

Thank you for your query.
1. The most commonly used material for the prosthesis is teflon (PTFE). EON or Gyrus will be fine.
2. Titanium and titanium with teflon are the next options. EON or Kurz prosthesis should be fine.
3. Nitinol is the most expensive. It is a memory metal.
