Is HIV Infection Possible Through Oral Sex?
1. Is there a possibility that i can get hiv due to this cut on my skin? I have heard that the cut needs to be deep, will my cut be counted as a deep one?Â
2. Can smooching for 2 - 3 seconds make me catch HIV? When it was not deep at all.Â
3. Can sucking boobs be a concern? They were not lactating as far as i remember.Â
4. I can't wait for 12 weeks to get myself tested, what can u suggest as a confident tesr that i can do right away and which will give conclusive results?Â
I am really terrified and did a huge mistake which i will never repeat in my life. It's not worth it. Please help.Â
Thanks
Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
I am going to answer you one by one.
1....Although theoretically possible to get HIV this way but practically no such type of case has ever been reported. A neglible risk can exist if the wound is deep and there is free flow of blood from your finger at the time of inserting your finger.
2...no chance of HIV by kissing
3... No chance of HIV by sucking boobs
4...Although chances of you getting HIV is as good as nil but to get the peace of mind, you can go ahead with HIV NAAT test which is a very sensitive test and can detect HIV RNA as early as 7-14 days after infection with HIV. This test will always give positive result as long as there is HIV in someone's blood.
I again reassure you that you are unlikely to get HIV this way.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
1. The abrasion on my finger did not have much blood flowing out . It was like what you see when you peel your skin and get little blood. It happened in morning and i got the massage in evening. The finger was a bit red. Do you think this kind of peeling exposes the blood stream for the virus to enter.
2. I don't know if she had sores or cuts in her mouth and hence i don't know if her blood entered my mouth. How risky was my activity?
3. The test you have mentioned, will that give correct result in 7 to 10 days. I have read that we sgiuld wait for 3 weeks. If it is still ok, i will go ahead with it. Also what are the chances of it giving false results?
4. Do i need prescription for this test. I want this to be done without anyone knowing.
Eagerly waiting for your response.
1.....This abrasion is unlikely to cause the entry of HIV
2....your activity was for just 2-3 seconds. Unlikely to result in transmission
3.....it gives accurate result between 7-14 days.
4....Ideally you need a prescription for this, however you can try to talk to lab people directly.
Thanks
How long does it take for the results to come for this test? Ate there any chances of getting false results in this?
You should get the result in couple of days. No chance of false positive or negative report with this test.
Thanks
This can also be called as VIRAL LOAD test or PCR test.
Thanks
You are most welcome to revert to me anytime.
Thanks
HIV RNA on 8 th day is conclusive, however HIV DUO test ( HIV 1/2 p24 ) may not be conclusive on 8th day. I have seen your report and it is normal.
Thanks
This result of HIV RNA is negative and is almost conclusive.
To be doubly sure you can get the HIV RNA test again after a week or so or a HIV DUO test on 27 or 28 days post exposure. A repeat negative test should be the ultimate peace for you in case you are still jittery.
Thanks
Although it is correct that HIV RNA OR DNA test are not routinely used for the diagnosis of HIV,but there is no other way to diagnose HIV within few days of exposure.
Ideally speaking it takes time for HIV test to show its result. Different tests take different time. Generally speaking it is a 3 months time where tests are 100% conclusive, but a negative test around 3-4 weeks of exposure almost rules out HIV.
In your case, basically speaking, you are not a candidate for being HIV positive, but you are still excessively worried. At the top of it you want to get tested immediately. What to do? Only thing left is to get the PCR test done. Ideally speaking you should have got it done around 2-3 weeks of exposure but you got it done on 8th day.
Now just wait and watch.
If I was you,I would have simply stopped thinking about HIV anymore.
If you still want it,then go ahead with HIV DUO TEST around 28 days post exposure and then either a western blot test or a HIV PCR at 12 weeks.
I know all these are going to be negative.
It would be better if you stop worrying.
Just touching here and there doesn't lead to HIV so easily.
I hope it helps you.
Thanks
Be happy and relax.
Best of luck
