Is HIV Spot Test Done 8 Weeks Post Exposure Conclusive?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Mar 2016
Question: Hello Doctor,

The previous discussion has been closed, so I am attaching the previous communication to clarify my doubts.

I am currently taking Pantaprozole twice a day, B-complex and sporolac for a 10 days (for ulcer on tongue and due to excessive use of antibiotics).

But still I have the throat irritation, but it is not painful.

I am very conscious about diet and having timely food, but only getting tensed about the symptoms and getting the doubt of conclusiveness of HIV report.

Doctor please clarify for my understanding:

After 8 weeks of exposure and negative HIV report, are there any chances of showing symptoms of HIV?

Does stress cause any throat infection, skin rash etc?

Finally 8 week test considered 100% conclusive or 12 week test has to be done?

Regarding STD, i got tested for Syphilis at 3 weeks, HSV,Chlyamdia at 3 weeks and Gonnoreah, chlaymdia PCR at 6 weeks. Do I need to get tested for Hepatitis B and C as well? please advise.

I am really getting tensed about HIV due to persistent symptoms.

Your reply is highly appreciated .

Thanks XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Repeat the test after 12 weeks to have a conclusive result.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome once again.
Bcomplex, sporolac and pantaparozole can not resolve your sore throat. Have regular saline gargle. If not relieved, once again have a course of antibiotics as per the guidance of your physician.

I will consider the HIV report 12 weeks after the exposure as more conclusive.
Your test for syphilis also should be repeated after 4 weeks as the negative report by 3 weeks can not be reliable. Have the hepatitis B and C test also after 12 weeks.

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

So should I stop the medicine and meet physician or ENT specialist? Or do you suggest any antibiotics?

Shall I get tested for Swab culture test? What is it all about?
Does this test detect any STD?

Regarding my symptoms and negative HIV report @ 8 weeks, please clarify whether there is a possiblity of ARS symptoms after 8 weeks?. Some websites say it is 2 to 4 weeks.

Plz advise.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Throat infection is a common problem. Not necessarily be due to HIV.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
You need not stop those medicines like Pantaperazole, Bcomplex and Sporalac as they are supportive drugs. Even with Antibiotis they can better be continued to avoid adverse effects of antibiotics.
It will not be fair on my part to treat you online without see you or examining you. Your ENT suergeon is the right person to decide the antibiotics preferably after seeing the results of throat swab and culture report. For detection of STD, you have to mention the history to your doctor and he will request for special culture test and blood tests for STD. Routine culture test will not reveal any STD.
Yor symptoms are quite common for anybody to get. They are not necessarily be due to HIV. Get well soon.

Dear Sir,

I want to ask you a question regarding STD.

I got tested for Syphilis, Herpes, Chlymadia at 3 weeks, but i was under antibiotic for 3days intially and these tests were done after 2weeks gap.

Apparently after 2 weeks of Cefpodoxime and with a gap of a week i got tested for chlyamdia and gonnoreah PCR Tests at 6th week

Can you please clarify whether these tests can be relied as I was having antibiotics.

Please reply.

Thanks XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
STD risk is low with oral sex and also with protected vaginal sex.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Test for Syphilis would become reliably only after 4 weeks after the exposure (antibodies against syphilis would appear 4 weeks after exposure).
Gonococcal detection can be affected by taking antibiotics like Cefpodoxime whereas detection of Chlamydia is unlikely be affected. But in your case, STD risk is low. Test for Herpes could be reliable.
