Is Lexapro Advisable When Suffering From Anger In A Bi-polar Person?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: my husband is bi-polar, lately he has been extremely short tempered and angery, hIs doctor has just put him on Lexapro. Do you feel this could help. He is 62 years old and was diaognosed 30 yrs. ago.
Brief Answer:
depends on 'type of anger'.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I can understand your concerns.
The choice of lexapro depends on type of anger, I should say.
By 'type of anger' what I mean is:
1. If the anger is out of irritability and for most of time he remains aloof and sad, then lexapro can help.
2. If the anger is assaultive and abusive, then I don't think lexapro will help.
In such cases, a low dose antipsychotic like olanzapine (prescription drug) is better choice.
Kindly discuss this with your doctor.
Hope this helps.
Feel free to ask further.
Take care.
Thanks.
