Is Rabipur Injection Required After Being Scratched By A Cat?

default
Posted on Tue, 13 Dec 2016
Question: Dear Doctor,

I was scratched by a stray cat in the Middle East.
It is a minor wound really small.

Last May almost the same thing happened to me and then I needed 5 shots spread over several weeks.

Are these 5 shots enough for immunization and do I now only need a booster of 2 shots (or is May-June or around close enough).

Brief Answer:
you need two extra shots...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I suppose you're talking about rabies vaccination. The currently recommended dosage for unvaccinated individuals is 4 doses (days 0,3,7 and 14) of the vaccine (it was 5 in the past) or 5 doses for immunocompromised individuals. For every subsequent event two more doses are required on days 0 and 3.

Kind Regards!
