Is Scalp Micro Pigmentation Safe To Undergo When Diagnosed With G6PD Deficiency?
Question: I suffer from a G6PD deficiency which is an enzyme/red blood cells condition. I m interested in undertaking scalp micro pigmentation (SMP) procedure whereas they inject ink in the scalp making it look like hair follicles. The ink Constituents are as follow. Do you think any of the composition could cause hemolytic anemia. Thanks
Chemical Construction: Aqua, Glycerin, C.I.77266 carbon black pigment (not to be confused with C.I.77226 black pigment, which is prohibited in the tattoo industry because of its health risks), PEG-8, Shellac, Poloxamer 188, Sodium Hydroxide.
• Ink and color pigments have been lab tested and are certified to be compliant with the European Resolution ResAP, as well as with strict German legislated sterilization standards, ensuring peace of mind for all.
• Gamma-ray sterilized to guarantee absolute microbiological safety.
• Does not contain cancerous aromatic amines or PAH (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons).
• Unlike other ink brands, our formula is organically constructed, not synthetically.

Brief Answer:
No risk as far as G6PD deficiency is concerned
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have noted your concern.
There is no risk as regards to G6PD deficiency with this cosmetic procedure. The ingredients are safe and moreover since the ink is supposed to be deposited into the skin these ingredients are anyways not going to enter circulation in significant amounts or toxic levels to cause any concern.
Regards

Hi Dr. Kakkar,
Thanks for getting back to me. There is a Disclaimer under your answer saying that i should not be relying on the answer you provided. I find this confusing now...
Are sure about your answer?
Also what about body tattoos in the case of people with G6PD deficiency? I m also looking to get one but i m still hesitant. The tattoo shop uses the ink on the below link. http://www.tatto.dk/Resources/Files/MSDF-Data%20Blade/MSDS%20-%20Enternal%20ink%201.pdf
Thanks again

Brief Answer:
These procedures are safe
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
You should definitely rely on advice by doctors on this site. The disclaimer is specifically meant for those people who self medicate and substitute online advice when clearly inperson advice is needed e.g a person with stroke or cancer or fracture. Of course in those cases online advice cannot substitute inperson examination.
In your case the query is regarding an opinion on safety and use of a product which can be appropriately handled online.
Yes i am sure about my advice. There is absolutely no problem with any of these procedures involving tattoo ink in your case of G6PD deficiency. I have already clarified that these ingredients are safe and in any case insignificant amounts of these ingredients would enter circulation, not enough to cause any toxicity or side effects.
Regards
