Is Sinarest Advisable For Occasional Runny Nose And Cough In A Child?

My 4 month old kid is 6.9 KGS. In past 7 days, we noticed running nose on 4 occassions. In addition, sometimes we hear cough sound when he breathes. We consulted Dr n he said that my kid's lungs are clear but recommended Ns nebulization 5ml. He also recommended, Sinarest AF drops : 1 drop each at morning n evening and nasivion s drops every 6 Hrs.Personally, we believe that our kid is not that sick. Therefore, want to take a second opinion: do we need to really give him Sinarest AF or will he heal on his own in sometime? In addition is Sinarest AF safe for my kid n is the prescribed dosage ok? instructions o the cover state 0.2 ml up to 6 months old?
Nasivion S is sufficient,I would not like to continue Sinarest AF
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
Sinarest AF contains Phenylephrine(Decongestant) and Chlorpheniramine(Antiallergic).
You are right. The dose is 0.2 ml(4 drops) three times a day for this age.
If there is no persistent or significant running nose/sneezing, I wont suggest to give Sinarest AF drop as long term use of this drop can cause rebound congestion.
The most common cause of noisy breathing(when not associated with significant breathing problem) in this age is due to nasal blockage and poor tone of upper respiratory tract muscles.
As the baby grows the tone improves and for nasal blockage Nasivion S(saline) drop is sufficient. It does not have any side effects and can be given 4-5 times a day depending on the symptom.NS nebulisation does the same as Nasivion S drop if there are no lung signs.
So if there is no breathing problem, baby is feeding well;Nasivion S drop is sufficient.
I hope this helps.
Please do ask if you have any more query.
