I have concerns he iss being over medicated
Brief Answer:
zolpidem is not recommended for use in children.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns.
Zolpidem is not recommended for use is paediatric population. Though, it is used off-label sometime.
For a child of 5 years, who is already taking risperidone and amitriptyline (both cause sedation), I think zolpidem 10 mg is way to high.
Zolpidem 10mg is usually a adult dose.
Hitting into the wall and smacking his face clearly suggests that he is being over-sedated.
In my opinion, his zolpidem should be stopped. The drug should be given only under extreme case of insomnia, that too starting with a minimal dose.
Kindly discuss this with the doctor.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
