Brief Answer:
to prevent eye from collapsing,

Detailed Answer:
My dear patient thank you so much for asking question on this forum.See the concept is very easy our eye is seperated from outside atmosphere by eye ball wall.If pressure outside eye(atmosphere) is more then pressure inside eye then eye would collapse. Therefore after removal of silicon gel gas bubble would be introduced in eye cavity( to balance cavity pressure with outside pressure),otherwise the eye would collapse permanently.
So you should follow the procedure suggested by your opthalmologist dear.

Thanks and good luck

Detailed Answer:
Hey,
Vitrectomy increases oxygen levels in the eye, which is thought to cause damage to the proteins in the lens by processs of oxidation and causes cataract.
its very common side effect of vitrectomy and will be treated by implanting artificial lens.
Whether its silicon or air oxidative stress would be same.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am sorry but eye can't be replaced or transplanted.Only a part of eye called cornea can be replaced thats it.
cataract surgery can be performed 8-12weeks after bubble introduction in eye.

Don't worry i don't think things would go wrong now.

thank you and good luck to her.
