Is A House With Strong Naphthalene Odor Healthy For Living?
Question: 9 years ago, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Recently, we put earnest money on a home whose owners kept an uncapped, wide-mouth jar of mothballs in an unventillated downstair room. The vapors coming from the room were very strong. I do not know, how long this vaporization has been going on, but the owners have lived in this house for seven years. Naphthalene (diclorobenzene) is a category 2 carcinogen, but I'm wondering if I should live in this house. I do not want to develop hemolytic anemia!
