Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
Hello & thank you for submitting your question to HCM.

I can understand your concern about these symptoms. At your appointment, your physician should be able to use an Ophthalmoscope to look inside your eye and look for any abnormalities including signs of infection.

Signs of infection include erythema /redness, swelling, pain, itching, discharge. The tear duct does not directly connect with the eye.

If you develop any of these additional symptoms or severe worsening of the redness, or have any change in vision it would be reasonable to go to the emergency room for an immediate evaluation.

Otherwise, I suggest waiting until your appointment tomorrow and bringing these concerns to your physician's attention.

Sincerely,
Dr Galamaga

Welcome back to HCM

This is reassuring that your symptoms have not worsened or progressed--and in fact, the redness has cleared up.

If you were experiencing eye pain, you would likely be aware of the pain. Irritation might present as a sensation of itch or foreign body in the eye. It sounds as if you are not experiencing any of these symptoms.

In the meantime, try not to rub or irritate the area. Make sure to voice your concerns with your physician at your appointment. Additionally, you may want to consider discussing other causes of excessive tearing (such as keratitis or even age-related etiology) with your doctor.

I hope this was helpful.

Sincerely,
Dr Galamaga
