Is A Tetanus Shot Necessary After Injury From Falling On The Side-walk?
Question: Hi, I tripped today and fell on a sidewalk, cutting my knee (scraped it), elbow and both palms. My knee bled quite a bit so I cleaned it with alcohol, put neosporin on it and bandaged it. Someone told me that I should get a tetanus shot. I haven't had one in 15 - 20 years. Is it necessary to get one because of a scrape?

It is a scrape and not a deep wound at all. Would you mind telling me why I need a tetanus shot?
Hello,
The bacteria that causes tetanus is found in soil and dust and enters human body through cuts and abrasions.
Since tetanus is very serious problem and fatal in about 30-35% people,it is always best to get the shot.

I fell on a cement sidewalk. Would that make a difference? Also, since I fell early today, is it too late to get the shot? If not, how long do I have between the injury occuring and getting the shot? Also, what are the odds that I will develop a problem if I can't get the shot?
Hello,
You still need the shot
Tetanus shot can be taken within 24 hours of injury.
Best treatment for tetanus is prevention by getting tetanus shot. it is not possible to predict about the odds of getting tetanus after the injury.
