Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: On 1 nov 2014 i had sucked breast of a lady of unknown hiv status(not a sex worker) and no other interaction. I felt some salty kind of taste and not sure if it was blood. I tested for hiv on 31st XXXXXXX (91 days and 13 weeks) using a rapid (tridot method) which was negative. On 4 feb i again tested at another lab using a rapid test (method not known). Do i need to test again Or are theae test conclusive. For around 15 days before the tests i was taking unienzyme and bcomplex can this affect the test reaults?

Brief Answer:
Sucking the breast of a non lactating woman has negligible risk for HIV

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query..

First of all sucking breast is not a high risk activity.
In lactating mothers, after a prolonged exposure to breast milk, only 25-30% of the children are getting HIV through breast milk. Not all the children who fed with breast milk and not definitely through one feed got HIV..
You had breast contact with a non-lactating woman. There is almost no risk of HIV for you.
More over your rapid test after 90 days is very much conclusive and ruled out the possibility of HIV 1 and 2 in you.
Tablet Unienzyme and Bcomplex have not at all likely to affect the test results.
You need no further test for HIV.

Thanks doc. I am married and have been avoiding all contact with my wife becasue of this worry. Wpuld it be fine to resume my normal life now? Are there any chances of late detection in my case as my fear is i might have sucked a drop of blood. Also over the last one month i have lost about 3 kgs of weight (82 kgs earlier) would that be a symptom of hiv?

Brief Answer:
You can resume normal sexual life with your wife

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

Even if you had sucked a drop of blood (blood would not come through nipple unless there was an injury) and consider that your sex partner is a HIV positive
individual, then also the risk of HIV transmission was negligible only.
Moreover your negative rapid HIV test had ruled out that negligible possibility also totally. There is no chance for delayed window period for HIV in your case as you were not on any medication to suppress the antibody production.
So forget about HIV and you can resume your sexual activities with your wife.
Have a great time.
