Is An Enlarged Sub Mental Lymph Node A Cause For Concern?

default
Posted on Thu, 18 Jun 2015
Question: Hi,

I found that my sub-mental lymph node has swollen and it has been 2 months(which cannot be moved) and I could feel the node of about 1-1.5 cm. I also found that there are two balls on the jawline which can be moved and are of pea sized. Do I need to consult a doctor for this? If yes, whom should I consult?

Brief Answer:
infection is the likely cause

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Enlarged sub mental node is usually because of infection of the jaw as the sub mental node usually drains lower teeth and jaw. Gingivitis is a common reason for enlargement. It is not a cause of huge concern but 1.5 cm is significant, I recommend you to see a dentist preferable of oral medicine speciality first

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back

I do not have any teeth ache or any issues related to teeth now but probably around 10 days back I had some pain near wisdom teeth. What about the two pea sized balls near the jaw line ? Is that something which need to worried ?
2 months back, I had palpitations and I was checked at XXXXXXX Israel Hospital in XXXXXXX I remember One of the EKG mentioned that it was Atrial Fibrillation. I had Echo, few blood tests and 1 day of Holter Monitor. After Evaluation they told me that it was Atrial Ectopics and nothing to worry at all. Is this anyway connected to the swelling of lymph nodes?

Brief Answer:
Chronic gingivitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Atrial fibrillation will not cause any swelling of the node.

Inpacted tooth can cause swelling of the node. Wisdom tooth when impacted needs to be taken care of. Anything related to wisdom teeth is best handled by an oral surgeon.

Sorry to trouble you again. Suddenly the sub-mental lymph node grew in size overnight. I do not have any teeth pain. Do I actually have to consult a dentist ?

Brief Answer:
Submental node

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for getting back. Please don't be sorry, you can ask any number of doubts.

Lymohnodes cannot suddenly grow in size. I would like to add here that the sub mental nose has a specific function of draining only the areas I have mentioned earlier. I feel it is worthwhile to visit a dentist however a general physician can also opine after examination
