Is Caffeine Shampoo Effective In Treatment Of Androgentic Alopecia?
Question: Hi I have been suffering from seborrheatic dermatitis for last 2 years. It was worse when i was in bangalore but ever since i have moved to mumbai the dandruff is in control.
i use dr. batra anti dandruff shampoo every alternate day and coal tar shampoo by DCL labs once a week for last 2 years.
however my hair has become significantly thinner in last 2 years this is androgentic alopecia i am told by the doctor who recommended me the above treatment.
My questions
1) i recently saw caffeine shampoo( alpecin) can i use this instead of cola tar shampoo to give volume and hair growth.? if not this then what else can be done to get thicker,fuller hair?
2) I didnot use minoxidil etc because of side effects like loss of libido etc. does the caffeine shampoo have any side effects?
3) are there any multivitamins that can be taken especially for hair( saw palmetto etc) as i donot use any hair products,oils, conditioners etc due to my dandruff problem.

1. Caffeine shampoo slightly increases the thickness,however it is not that effective. Coal tar shampoo will not do any benefit to you.
Your doctor is correct, you have androgenic alopecia.
Progressive thinning in males is seen in androgenic alopecia.
2.Minoxidil is very good and has very less side effects.
Finasteride causes loss of libido not minoxidil.You can safely use minoxidil.
3.Saw palmetto is an antiandrogen. It helps in preventing further hair loss and increases the thickness of hair. There are no side effects of caffeine shampoo but effect will be less. You can use it safely.

1) are there any side effects of both these medicines. I am getting married in next 3 months and i suffer from varococoele so dont want to take any risk.
