
Is Colonoscopy Advisable While Having A BP Of 165/135?

Question: I went to schedule a colonoscopy yesterday. When the checked my blood pressure it was 170/140. It has never been over 140..and usually @130/80. I am 71. I checked if at home this morning..and it was 165/135. Should I cancel the colon procedure?

Yes at this high Blood pressure any invasive procedure is best avoided till the BP is under control.
At such high BP you need to be started on appropriate anti hypertensive drugs and your cardiac evaluation, lipid profile , Thyroid profit should be performed.
See your doctor he would start you on anti hypertensive medicines. My choice would be Amlodipine based on available details. Once your BP gets control within a week your doctor would post you for colonoscopy.
