Is Ecoli UTI Contagious?
Urine culture result Final Report
Greater than 100,000 col/ml Enterobacter cloacae
ORGANISM ECLO
I had an Ecoli UTI infection 9 weeks ago so I thought this was the same thing. Nope. Have no idea where that came from either. My doctor, today, basically sent me an email telling me it was this and not Ecoli along with information.
Me: Female Age 66 Retired Diabetic Insulin 2xday CHF under control Have not been a patient in a hospital. Have not been "sick".
What does this mean? I am taking Septra. What I'm reading really scares me.
Am I contagious?
Do I just finish the medication and go on living?
OR will there be more tests to be sure it's gone?
Do you have any symptoms of UTI?
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
This germ is a common cause of infections transmitted in the hospital. This is the probable reasons why they would want to know whether you have been ill and hospitalized recently or not. I am pretty sure your doctor is responding to such a request.
There is no reason to get worried about being contagious or not. It is the same universal precautions. Washing of hands as often as possible and most especially after using the toilets and before meals. This helps limit infection spread.
Have the symptoms for which you were being treated for UTi subsiding? If they are, there is no reason to go in for a control. Unless there are some reasons for which another culture would be asked to see whether the infection is completely addressed that I may not be aware of.
In all, continue the medication to completion. If symptoms are resolved and there are no more reasons to show up for repeat testing, consider it done and dusted.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. .Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
