Brief Answer:
Yes at age of 52 heart or prostate problem should be ruled out for ED

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Yes you are thinking right that erectile dysfunction at age of 52 can be organic. Possibilities of hypertension, diabetes, ischemic heart disease and prostate problem are there which can cause erection problem. It is not always there but we must check the same before starting treatment.

Fasting blood sugar, ECG/EKG, PSA (prostate specific antigen) and proper physical examination should be done in this case.

For erection problem provide some answers

- Since when are you suffering from erection problem?

- How did the problem started? Any specific incidence?

- When did you do your last successful intercourse?

- Do you have any physical illness?

- Is there any disturbance in your relationship with partner?

- Do you have any stress or psychological problem?

- Is morning erection present?

- Do you have any habit of alcohol or smoking? If yes provide more details.

I will be happy to help further after your response.

Regards,

Dr.Chintan Solanki.

It has happened the last three times my wife and I tried to have intercourse, but we were successful on the 4th try. I don't have any issues masturbating. I don't have a physical illness that I'm aware of, my marriage is typical after 20 years, stress is the same with work as it's been for several years, I still have morning erections, I am a smoker.

My mother survived a massive heart attack a couple of yrs ago and I have a cousin and an uncle who passed from a heart attack in their early 40's. My wife is concerned this could be cardiac related. We have 'never' had issues with sex before now.

Brief Answer:
less chances of major physical problem, stop smoking

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for follow up and information.

From your history it seems that there would be no major physical problem at present. But history of smoking is responsible for erectile problem as well as suggests some possibility of cardiac problem. There is need to stop smoking.

Positive family history suggests need of evaluation of cardiac system first.

Revert back to me with reports of physical check up.

You can carry on sexual activities without being apprehensive about this failure. Do not actively think about erection while doing sex and try to enjoy.

Take care.
