Is Facial Flushing A Clinical Presentation Of Carcinoid Tumour Of The Colon?
Question: I have questions regarding the symptoms of carcinoid rumors. Does facial flushing always occur and if so how often. Is the flushing very noticeable? Is it a deeper red color? Does flushing occur in combination with other symptoms at the same time?
I am very concerned because of some recent symptoms I have been having.
My symptoms include semi solid to loose stools (1 or 2 per day) for the past 3-4 weeks, mild intermittent abdominal discomfort mostly on the left side but sometimes on the right too. My skin on my face will feel warm occasionally, and may look slightly pinker than normal. Recently, my stools returned to normal for 2 days. Then I came down with what I presumed was the stomach flu. Two hours after eating supper one night, I developed severe abdominal cramps and stomach pain. I had a bowel movement that was semi silos to loose. The intestinal cramping subsided but the stomach ache continued. I couldn't sleep and I couldn't get comfortable. I also had a headache, lightheaded feeling, low grade fever of 100 and intermittent chills. A few hours later I began vomiting and having watery diarrhea at the same time. I vomited a total of two times and had one bout of watery diarrhea, that kept me on the toilet for 45 minutes. After that the abdominal pain went away. Should I be worried about carcinoid rumors? My doctor said it could be IBS, although I have not been diagnosed yet. I have read that carcinoid tumors can mimic IBS. I had stool studies done and they all came back normal. Colonoscopy in March of 2015 did not show any polyps. No blood in the stool, no weight loss, appetite is normal. Blood work did show that my Vitamin D level was low, so my doctor told me to increase my vitamin D to 2000 IU per day and recheck the level in 3 months. I am a little concerned why my Vitamin D level is low.

Brief Answer:
Just food poisoning, not a carcinoid tumor
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HCM
I don't think you should be worried about carcinoid tumor, I feel you had food poisoning, that was responsible for your symptom.
Your colonoscopy is normal, if you are anxious to clear your doubt you can consider endoscopy and ct scan. But presently with the symptoms I would not have suggested you either, as I feel it is just food poisoning.
Vit D may be life, if you are vegetarian and less exposure to sun or being overweight. It is less likely to produce any harm, as suggested by the consultant increase the intake of vitamin, you will be fine.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
