Question: Hi sir,

My Mother is 60 years old. She is suffering from high blood pressure and thyroid for which she is taking MetXL 50/5 and Thyronorm 25mg. during the earlier tests we used to see fasting blood glucose to be around 80. but when we went for a check up last month, we observed the TSH to be 4.87 and Fasting blood glucose to be 96. so we went for check up again this month and observed the readings for TSH and fasting glucose to be 4.63 and 99 respectively. can you please suggest ways to keep glucose in normal range as we saw readings only till 100 to be normal for fasting blood glucose. Thanks in Advance.

Brief Answer:
Any Fasting Blood Sugar level below 100 is normal in non diabetic person.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.

Any level of Fasting blood sugar level below 100 is considered as normal in non diabetic person.

Diabetes & Pre-diabetes is universally defined on the basis of following 3 tests.
1) Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT)
* Fasting blood sugar level
below 100 - Normal
100 to 125 - Pre-diabetes (Impaired Fasting Glucose)
126 & more - Diabetes
* 2 hours post Glucose load blood sugar level
Below 140 - Normal.
140 to 199 - Pre-diabetes (Impaired Glucose Tolerance)
200 & More - Diabetes.

2) HbA1c level
Below 5.7 - Normal
5.7 to 6.4 - Pre-diabetes.
6.5 & more - Diabetes.

3) Random Blood Glucose levels more than 200 in the presence of symptoms of diabetes.

So any level of Fasting blood sugar level below 100 is considered as normal.

If really want to confirm diabetes status OGTT or HbA1c level may be suggested.

Hope this helps.
