Is Frequent Defecation Pathological?

Question: Is frequent defecation pathological?
If yes, what information do I need to tell my doctor?
If not, what can I do to reduce the inconvenience?
I defecate about 5X a day, for the last 5 years. Sometimes it is very firm, sometimes
quite soft. No obvious pattern, except that it slows down towards night fall and I do not need to get out of bed to deficate. It is not like the diarhea I get with stomach flu.
I realize many people would love to have this problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome
I appreciate your concern
Based on your description it appears to be a case of irritable bowel syndrome. Frequent defecation is a symptom of irritation of GIT. Though the frequency can vary from person to person an organic cause should be ruled out.
Stool routine examination plus for ova and parasites should be done. Mebeverine and rifaximin can be advised empirically for the ibs once other causes are excluded.
let me know if you have any query
Wishing you best of health
Please consult your doctor before taking any further course of action

Based on your recommendation, i will try to see my doctor. However, personally, in my completely non-professional judgement, I do not think I have IBS.

Hello again.
Though, IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion but based on your description there is a high probability. There is no harm in empiric treatment for IBS if no other cause is found. If symptoms of urgency/frequency improve then it will be proven accordingly.
