Is It Necessary To Have Yellow Fever Vaccine While Travelling In Tanzania?
Routine vaccination for travel not recommended unless high exposure risk.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern
CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has not recommended yellow fever vaccination for the majority of travelers to Tanzania. If you are staying in Tanzania for a long time or in an area that will result in being exposed to mosquitoes abundantly, then vaccination should be done. The government of Tanzania requires that you have proof of yellow fever vaccination if you are travelling from a country where yellow fever is endemic.
Its a live attenuated vaccine. If you have hypersensitivity to chicken eggs , are suffering from Acute febrile illness or are Immunosuppressed e.g in case of malignancy, or medications like chemotherapy then this vaccine is contraindicated and should not be used. If these situations aren't present then vaccination can be done as its benefit outweigh the risks. The organ shut down , hypersensitivity reaction or anaphylactic shock risk is associated with many of the routine live attenuated vaccines but the incidence is extremely low and should not be used as a basis for not getting vaccinated. AEFI ( Adverse Events Following Immunization ) kit should be in place while you are getting vaccinated in case of any suspected reaction that might occur.
wishing you best of health
thanks
