Is It Normal To Have High BP While Suffering From Cold?
Question: Hello
can being sick cause higher blood pressure? my normal blood pressure is usually 95/65. I've been sick for 2 weeks with a cold, cough, possible sinus infection and just feeling l drained. my blood pressure is now 130/85ish. is that due to being sick? I don't have a fever and feel myself starting to get better, but still have the higher blood pressure. is that anything to be concerned about?

Brief Answer:
It's stress response
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your query.
I think I would be able to help you.
The fact remains that the blood pressure does ruse when you are not well specially when you have a infection. This is the normal stress response of the body to the infections.
I think I would suggest that you wait for the infection to settle and then retest your blood pressure.
Besides ,even at that level ,the blood pressure is still within the normal range of 140/90.
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information helps you. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
