Is It Possible To Get STD By Sharing A Hot Water Tub?

Question: I was on a ski trip this past weekend. I was using a Hot tub the is shared with the owner (I'm pretty sure he is gay) of the townhouse we were staying at. The first time I went in I had board shorts on. After we were done I notice what appeared to be specs of semen floating around. I didn't think much of it. The second time I went in on Sat I was naked & masturbated facing the Jets. Sat night I couldn't sleep & had flu like symptoms. The next day I took some ibuprofen & felt better by the middle of the day. Monday & Tues I felt fine, but last night I woke up in the middle of the night I woke up with the chills & couldn't sleep. I'm having hot & cold spells right now & my body was achy. Could have contracted a STD? I don't have any rashes or bumps around the genital area.
Brief Answer:
Unlikely to get STD from the hot tub
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
You cannot get STD just by sharing a hot water tub as the germs do not survive in hot water. So there is nothing to worry unless you had unsafe sex with any infected person.
If you have chills, you are likely to be having fever.
It would be good if you can see a doctor, get yourself examined and treated.

I didn't have sex with anyone. I was in the hot tub by myself naked & pleasureing myself with the jets. I'm just concerned that because the owner of the house is XXXXXXX & there what looked like to be semen floating around that the semen got into my penis by the jets. Im also concerned, because I was fine for the last two days & last night & today I'm having the same flu like symptoms that I had this past Sat night. Why would I feel fine for two days & now I'm feeling sick again?
Brief Answer:
Better to be investigated
Detailed Answer:
It is not an STD but you could be having a urinary infection from playing around in the infected water. It would be advisable to see a doctor and have a few tests like a blood count and a urine examination, which may reveal the cause of your symptoms.
STDs do not produce fever usually except in the secondary stage of Syphilis and HIV. These are very unlikely with this kind of exposure.

Brief Answer:
HSV2 can't survive a hot tub
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Urinary infection can cause fever, body ache, headache and a general feeling of being unwell. It doesn't cause a running nose.
Herpes progenitalis (HSV2) presents as vesicular lesions over the genitals or other sites of contact.HSV-2 cannot survive long on a non-living surface, so there is no real risk of getting it from a toilet seat or hot tub.
