Is It Safe To Continue Pregnancy Inspite Of TPO Antibodies Positive?

Question: Hi, My wife is 26 years old and she is being TPO Anitbodies and it has come against the Thyroid. Can you please let me know if is it safe to continue to pregnancy and if not how does it effect both mother and baby?

Brief Answer: Yes Detailed Answer: Hi, I read your query and I understand your concerns. Following is my reply: 1) It is safe to continue pregnancy inspite of TPO antibodies positive. 2) The only possible risk is chances of abortion. 3) There is some small chance of hypothyroidism in new born which can be corrected. 4) But this does not warrant termination of pregnancy. Brief Answer: Don't worry Detailed Answer: Hi TPO antibodies are marginally high. It wont create problem in all. Get TSH levels repeated. If TSH comes normal don't worry about it. Regards
