Is It Safe To Drink Alcohol After Getting Rabies Shots?
The rabies vaccine can be given as pre exposure prophylaxis or post exposure.
5 to 40% of persons who receive the vaccine may experience symptoms such as headache, abdominal pain, nausea, dizziness, which are similiar to what persons may experience with use of alcohol. These symptoms may or may not develop during the vaccine course. For this reason some doctors may advise to decrease or stop use of alcohol so that if any symptoms develop they can be readily diagnosed.
If you do not drink excessively or do not have the symptoms mentioned with alcohol use then it may be ok.
Alcohol may also interact with different medications, there are different vaccines made by different companies. Most state that there are no known interaction with alcohol but you may want to speak to your doctor to make sure that the brand that you were given is not known to interact with alcohol.
