Is It Safe To Have Aceproxyvon While Suffering From Liver Cirrhosis?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Apr 2015
Question: my father was prescribed Aceproxyvon in XXXXXXX , which I understand is a combination of acetaminophen and aceclofenac. This is for occasional but sometimes acute pain in the knee . The doctor had prescribed him this drug in consideration of his condition of cirrhosis of liver being managed.

He has lost his tablets while traveling in the US. Is there an equivalent over-the-counter drug brand name that I can get here in any US pharmacy that is equivalent

Brief Answer:
Aceclofenac is not available OTC in USA, nor its combination

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Both acetaminophen and aceclofenac are harmful for a patient with a cirrhotic liver. In the USA aceclofenac is not available OTC as its an NSAID. The only NSAIDs available OTC are Aspirin, Ibuprofen and Naproxen sodium. Acetaminophen is available OTC.

In a cirrhotic patient NSAIDs use is not safe as it can lead to increased risk of Hepatorenal syndrome, Acute renal failure, hepatotoxicity an Acetaminophen is relatively safer and can be taken up to 2.5 gram per day. NSAIDs should only be taken after consultation with your doctor.

Please consult your doctor before deciding on any further course of action

wishing you best of health

thanks
