Is It Safe To Have Verapamil For Cluster Headaches?
Question: I was prescribed Verapmil 120mg ER to try and prevent/interrupt the onset of a cycle of Cluster Headaches - however the office was closed so this was prescribed via phone and I have not had my heart/blood pressure monitored. Is this safe/wise to take?
Brief Answer:
Yes, You can take it
Detailed Answer:
Hi, Thanks for your query.
The usual starting dose of verapamil for cluster headache in adult population is 180 mg extended release formulation. The dose is adjusted after a week of initiation according to therapeutic efficacy.
Verapamil does not lower blood pressure significantly at this dose and particularly if you are taking proper diet and lots of fluids, try to take more salt in the diet or it may be accomplished by taking fruit juices.
Other Side effects may include constipation, nausea, fatigue, swelling of the ankles.
You need not to worry and take it. Go for monitoring of Blood pressure when it is convenient.
I hope this will be helpful to you. Wishing you good health.
