Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Taking Oral Contraceptive Pill?

default
Posted on Tue, 20 Oct 2015
Question: Hi, I took postpone-72, 12 hrs later intercourse on 24th of previous month which was 7th day of my period. Now on 1st of this month got the so called 'withdrawal bleeding' which is 7 days from taling the pill. It is less than my periods but not very less like spotting. Its been two days n still bleeding continues. I understand there is no chance of pregnancy since intercourse was right after my periods and also the ECP was taken within 72hrs but i'm little concerned with my health. When will the bleeding stop? When will i get my next period? Are there any ways or food i could take to stop bleeding n regular my periods in a healthy way?
Thanks in advance!

Brief Answer:
Irregular bleeding and delayed period can occur following ECP

Detailed Answer:
Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concern for the irregular bleeding after taking postpone-72.
After taking the ECPs like Postpone-72, usually the next period should start within the next month, although it might come a few days early or late

Since Postpone-72 contains high dose of the hormone Levonorgestrel irregular bleeding can occur as its side effect which usually it stops within a week.

This hormonal imbalance may also change in the duration of the next period (it may start early or may be delayed) can occur following the use of ECP.

If the bleeding does not stop after 5 days, you are advised to consult a gynecologist for probable use of certain drugs like Tranexamic acid which can control the prolonged bleeding.

Hope this answers your query.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
Foods such as vegetables, fruits, seeds and grains contain estrogens.

Detailed Answer:
Hi & Welcome.
Thanks for your reply.
Certain natural foods such as vegetables, fruits, seeds and grains contain phytoestrogens (estrogens). A diet rich in these foods will increase the amount of estrogen produced in the body.
Dried fruits like apricots, dates, sesame seeds, can help balance your estrogen levels in a big way. Vegetables such as broccoli, peas, soyabeans, chickpeas (Bengal grams) green beans, sweet potatoes and garlic are the best sources of estrogen.
