Is Red Sore On The Top Of Tongue A Symptom Of STD?
I asked a question a few days ago about possibly having oral herpes. It was decided it wasn't likely. In the process of this illness I had a sore throat for over two weeks and the doctor thought possibly a sinus infection and put me on a 10 day course of Ceftin. A few days into this I started having tingling around my lips which further led me to think of Herpes (I had a questionable sexual encounter about 21 days ago at this point) I do not seem to have anything looking like a cold sore.
The last few days I have also had what feels like a little bit of a swelled tongue and chapped lips along with the tingling. Today I have a sore on my tongue. It is a small red sore and not necessarily like what I find of pictures of herpes sores on tongues....I have had a very dry feeling mouth for several days as well. Does this seem like any kind of STD or possibly are the dry mouth and sore side effects of taking Ceftin for 7 days now?
Thanks
I uploaded a picture of my tongue if it helps. The sore is the red patch on the top right side of my tongue (left side of the picture) The sore itself doesn't seem to hurt but the entire top side of my tongue is a little bit tender (feels like when you scald your tongue a little with coffee that is too hot) but has been like that for a couple days.
herpes labialis is most likely
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.
I have read your query.
I have seen the attached photograph also.
I understand your concern.
As per details, the most likely possibility for your symptoms is Herpes labialis.
It is a viral infection caused by Herpes Simplex virus 1 usually.
It can be acquired by sexual contact or from environment also or through fomites.
It is characterised by fluid filled lesions better called vesicles grouped together on erythematous base. It is associated with itch or burning sensation or pain. At times, no apparent lesions are found and only tingling sensation or burning sensation is felt.
The sore on your tongue is most likely due to herpes only.
I will advise you to get your IgG and IgM levels for HSV 1 and HSV 2 .
In such cases, I prefer to advise oral antivirals like Acyclovir / Valacyclovir to be started within 24-48hours of onset of new lesions.
Visit your doctor so that he can examine you and give you prescription.
He may order test for you also.
You can share my opinion with him. I hope it helps.
Take care.
